Thanksgiving Gift

Area History

Music has been a favorite pastime for many of our former residents as several bands and singing groups were started in years gone by.  This week I will highlight a few of these.  Many were from Canby but most townships had a band as well.

Rotary of Canby

Above - At the Rotary Club of Canby meeting on Nov. 30, Jeremy Groenhoff told about Foxhound Cards and Collectibles. He provided samples of the merchandise that can be purchased there along with telling how the business was started and where he would like to see it progress to in the future.

Recipe Corner

Banana Bread Brownies

Ingredients:

For the Banana Bread Bars:

1-1/2 cups granulated sugar

1 cup or sour cream (or plain Greek yogurt)

1/2 cup butter, softened

2 large eggs

3-4 ripe bananas, mashed

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

The Library Nook

The Library Book Club will meet Tuesday, Dec 5, at 10:30 a.m. and to discuss “The 19th Christmas” by James Patterson.

Lighting up the sky

Powerhouse Fireworks lit up the sky concluding the Hometown Holiday celebration that took place last weekend in Canby. More pictures from the event will appear in next week’s paper and in the special Christmas section Dec. 19.


The Canby community was invited to watch the Living Nativity for the 30th year (above) with cast members including (no order): Adam and Jill Grengs as Mary and Joseph; Jon and Michelle Danielson as the innkeeper and wife; Laura Frazeur, Allyson and Kyra Giese, Jasmine, Bentley, Archer and Malachi Grengs, Ava Danielson, and Stu Frazeur as shepherds; Brandon Danielson, DeLon Clarksean and Reed Frazeur as kings; and Julie Pederson and Ann Clarksean as the angels’ song. Below are past scenes from performances in 2003 (below) and 2013 (far bottom).

Neither snow nor wind nor extreme cold, Canby’s Living Nativity celebrates 30th year

This year marked the 30th anniversary of Canby’s Living Nativity. Started in 1993 as a part of a tourism campaign, the original members included Jody Olson, Mary Homan, Laurie Yackley, Charleen Yackley, and Ed Clapp.
