Prairie Lives

Michael Lamfers was born in January 1947 in Stillwater, Minnesota. His birth mother placed him for adoption through Catholic Charities and he was adopted in May 1947 by Heye (pronounced "Hi") and Virginia (Lenertz) Lamfers. The Lamfers’ lived on and operated a farm east of Amiret near the Cottonwood River in Lyon County, Minnesota.

The Library Nook

The winter reading program runs now through March 30. Stop by the library to sign up. Read six books to receive a prize!

Shaving Cream Art is available at the library on Thursday, March 7, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. for all ages. Participants will work with shaving cream and paint to make a wonderful design.

Rotary of Canby

Rotary Club of Canby member, Lori Sisk, shared information on how leap year came about and the reason why we have it during the meeting on Feb. 29. Student Rotarians included (below, L-R) Lacey DeVos, Cheyenne Milbrandt and Evan Engesmoe.

Area History

I came across some interesting information on a subscription drive from the Canby News in October through November of 1924. The News headline in the October 10, 1924, issue introduces a big “Everybody Wins” prize contest. The grand prize was a new 1925 Studebaker car!
