Audrey Citterman

Audrey Ann (Kockelman) Citterman, long-time resident of Ivanhoe, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at the age of 81.

Audrey was born on June 24, 1940, to Nicholas and Susan (Schmitt) Kockelman in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, MN. She attended St. Leo Catholic School in St. Leo, MN, and went on to graduate from Canby High School in 1958.

On October 22, 1958, Audrey was united in marriage to the love of her life, Emil John Citterman, at the St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo. To this union, they were blessed with four children to raise on the family farm. In addition, they also opened their home to others.

Audrey was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed sharing her talents with her family. Holidays were always special at Audrey’s house. She enjoyed decorating the house from one end to the other and having everyone together. Christmas was extra special as there was always lots of love and homemade goodies. Visits from grandchildren and great-grandchildren always brightened her day.

Audrey and Emil shared a deep belief in their Catholic faith. As an active member of St. John Cantius Church for over sixty years, she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, taught religion class, and used her creative talents to decorate the church – especially decorating the tables and dining hall for the annual 4th of July celebration. Audrey also shared her talents by making unity candles for many weddings, baptismal fronts for infants of St. John Cantius, and blankets for the Alpha Omega House.

One of her most rewarding jobs was working with special needs students at the Canby Elementary School for seven years.  Audrey loved to cook and bake. Family and friends were always welcome for Sunday dinner after church. She shared this love of cooking as the head cook at the Ivanhoe Public School for eleven years, where she touched the hearts and stomachs of many children. The kids were always excited to eat her meals, especially her “homemade” holiday meals, which included homemade cookies and candies. Nothing was ever instant when she was preparing a meal.

Grateful for having shared Audrey’s life are her children, Wanda (Chris) Hebrank of Marshall, Nick (Sherri) Citterman of Hendricks, Tony Citterman of Ivanhoe and Lisa (Tom) Przymus of Ivanhoe; nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Patrick) Umphrey, Melissa (Matthew) Speakman, Nicholas Citterman Jr., Shane (Ashley) Citterman, Walker (Ashli) Citterman, Katrina (Carter) Flemmer, Natasha (Adam) Kuehl, Samantha (Cody) Pies, Haley (Austen) Bouvette; 13 great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Audrey Umphrey, Ellie and Anthony Speakman, Oliver and Windsor Citterman, Myles, Lane and Haddie Kuehl, Bailey and Paxton Pies, and Nora and Griffin Bouvette; two siblings, Pauline (Marion) Oellien and Elaine (Leon) Dritz; in-laws, Karen Kockelman, Ferdinand Citterman, Raymond (Joyce) Citterman, Clemence (Theresa) Citterman, Evelyn Panka, Esther Hoffman, Bernice Chlub and Leona Hauschild; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Emil of 61 years; her parents; her sister, Rosella (Joe) Rybinski; her brother, Silve Kockelman; and in-laws, Clara (John) Biranowski, Ambrose (Bernice) Citterman, Mary Ann Citterman, Walter Panka, Wallace Hoffman, Roy Chlub, Claire Jerzak, and LeRoy Hauschild.
