Floyd Marczak
Floyd J. Marczak, age 92, of Ivanhoe, MN, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at the Hendricks Hospital in Hendricks, MN. Mass of Christian burial was Monday, May 3, 2021, at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno, MN, with Fr. Ron Huberty celebrating. Burial was in the St. John Cantius Catholic Cemetery, Wilno.
Floyd J. Marczak was born on December 11, 1928, to Anton and Cecelia (Sik) Marczak on the family farm in Marble Township, Lincoln County, Minnesota. He grew up on the farm and attended the country school in Marble Township. Following his education, he worked on the family farm and continued farming throughout his life. Floyd received the sacraments of baptism, first holy communion and confirmation at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno, Minnesota.
In 1952, Floyd proudly began serving our country when he was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Texas, New Jersey and Massachusetts. While in the Army, he worked as a mechanic and served as a soldier guarding the east coast. He was honorably discharged in 1960.
On May 5, 1953, Floyd married the love of his life, Phyllis Citterman at St. John Cantius Catholic Church, Wilno, MN. To this union, they were blessed with nine children and were happily married for 55 years until Phyllis’ passing in 2008. Floyd and Phyllis farmed in the area, settling near Ivanhoe. Floyd had also driven the milk truck for the Hendricks Creamery and for Vern Lundberg.
Floyd was a kind, humble and gentle soul with a wonderful sense of humor. He always knew how to make us smile and laugh. Floyd always put his family first. He began his day with prayer and ended it with prayer. Floyd’s greatest joys in life were his love of God, his family and farming. He enjoyed the countless family gatherings where his home was filled with the love and laughter of his family. He loved to play UNO with his family, especially the grandkids. In his spare time, he would be found “tinkering” on the farm machinery, making sure everything was in good working order.
Floyd loved to tell stories of his early days growing up playing ball, riding bike and fishing, with his brothers at his side, walking to a nearby lake to “catch” supper. He recalled churning butter, making root beer and homemade ice cream. After Phyllis passed away, Floyd found he had a talent for baking … making many homemade apple pies and oatmeal cookies, and he loved to use Phyllis’ apple bar recipe. In the hours before his death, Floyd was surrounded by his family, with each sharing special memories with “Dad and Grandpa,” and Floyd stated, “It was just like Christmas!”
Floyd is lovingly remembered by his children, Deborah (David) Vlaminck, Fredrick (Peggy) Marczak, Charlotte (Mike) Wartner, Steven (Audrey) Marczak, Marie Marczak and special friend Merl Hancock, Rodney Marczak, Beverly (Mike) Thompson, and Matthew (Sarah) Marczak; his sisters, Helen Mead, Lorraine Taveirne, and Diane (Julius) Walters; brothers, Eddie (Marlys) Marczak, Jimmy Marczak and Tony (Carol) Marczak; sisters-in-law, Florine Citterman, Delores Citterman and Betty Citterman; 24 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; daughter, Susan Marie; his parents; and brothers, Clarence and Alvin Marczak. Blessed be his memory.
