Galen John Lanners was born on September 25, 1979, in Marshall. He was the son of James and Judy (Hasner) Lanners. Galen was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota. He attended school there as well and graduated with the high school class of 1998. Galen went on to further his education at North Dakota State University, graduating with a degree in Construction Management.

On September 28, 2013, Galen was united in marriage to Jamie Enger at Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota. The couple made their home outside Marshall and had three children, Ella, Ariana, and Ian. Galen worked at Rogge Excavating before tying into the family business, Lanners Brothers Construction. He had a thirst for knowledge and loved to learn new things, especially if it involved buying another tool. Galen was always analytical and didn't mind Googling for hours on end to find the best answer or product for those in search of answers. He was always willing to help others and was a dependable resource during construction projects. He took pride in and valued the relationships he made with his customers over the years.

Galen was a genuine and self-sacrificial person who made family a priority. He was a member of Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce, supporter of Pheasants Forever and Lyon County Corn and Soybean Growers, and a faithful member of Living Word Lutheran Church in Marshall. His other enjoyments in life included fishing, golfing, bowling, traveling, camping, boating, taking kids tubing on the lake, hanging out with friends and family, Tuesday evenings with our life group, going to Ella and Ari’s activities, and cuddling. Galen was an amazing, involved, and proud father and uncle. He recalled a recent three-month trip to Florida as a blessing, where he could focus on his care and his family.

Galen's hard-fought battle with cancer came to an end peacefully on October 15, 2023, just 20 days after his 44th birthday. Blessed and eternal be his memory.

Galen is survived by his wife of 10 years, Jamie Lanners of Marshall; three children, Ella, Ariana, Ian; father, James (Joan) Lanners of Elkton, S.D.; parents-in-law, Gary and Judy Enger of Hanley Falls; siblings, Jamie (Garrett) Lanners of Marshall, Nicholas (Amanda) Lanners of Brandon, S.D., Stephanie (Zach) Lanners  of Minneota; his black lab, Daisy; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Judy Lanners in 2014; grandparents, Norbert and Elizabeth Lanners and Clayton and Gladys Hasner; aunt, Judy Arzdorf; and uncles, Jack Lanners and Richard Lanners.
