Leslie Mead
Leslie “Les” Mead, age 78, of Canby, Minn., passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024, surrounded by family at his home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 17, from 4-6 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby. A continuation of celebration of life with fellowship and refreshments for Les will immediately follow the prayer service at Gordy and Kathy Ferguson’s residence at 1818 Hwy 68, Canby. Private family burial with military honors will be at the St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Canby. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel of Canby is entrusted with arrangements.
Leslie Warren Mead was born May 9, 1946, to Lester and Phyllis (Melby) Mead in Canby. Les was raised in Canby and graduated from Canby High School. He went on to attend Votech and got a degree in auto mechanics.
Les joined the United States Army on May 31, 1967, and was stationed in Germany. After serving his country, Les was honorably discharged on May 21, 1970. Les worked for Cleveland Chevrolet for 42 years plus.
In 1972, Les married Sharon Rue and they had one son, Josh. In 1998, Les met Bernie Wollum and they enjoyed 26 years together.
Les enjoyed racing, fishing, hunting, trap shooting and playing pool. He loved going on trips but loved coming home even more.
Grateful for having shared his life is his life-long partner, Bernie Wollum; children, Josh (Monique) Mead, Lynn (Jeremy) Wollum, and Jon (Maeghan) Wollum; grandchildren, Miles Mead, Maveric Wollum, Maeley Wollum, and Myla Wollum; siblings, Lyndon (Connie) Mead, Linnae (Peg) Mead, Jack (Linda) Mead, Jeff (Chris) Mead, Joel Mead, and Terry (Jacki) Mead; friends, Ardy and Karen Eilers; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Phyllis Mead.
