Luz Chavarria

Luz Maria Chavarria Guillen, age 86, of Canby, MN, passed away at her home in Canby on Tuesday, September 7, 2021. Funeral service was  Saturday, September 11, 2021, at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby, MN, with Rev. LeRoy Hopper officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby is entrusted with the arrangements.

Doña Luz was born to the late Emilio Chavarria and Honoria Guillen on November 24, 1934, in Coahuila, Mexico. She was the oldest of 16 children. Doña Luz’s family emigrated to the United States in the early 1950s, where Doña Luz met and married the late Don Maximiliano Estrada on July 13, 1953, in Las Cruces, NM. Together, they had nine children.

Doña Luz is survived by her children, Nina, Gloria, Jesus, Jorge, Jose, Emilio, Victor and Juana. She is also survived by her siblings, Margarita, Honoria, Emilio, Rosie, Sophia, Pauli, Albert, and Carolina; 34 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren, 38 great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Maximiliano Estrada in 1986; her infant son, Jorge in 1963; and grandson, Jorge Luis Estrada in 2021.
