Obituary

Leonard J. Hoffman, age 88, of Porter, MN, passed away Monday, October 25, 2021, at the Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby. Mass of Christian burial was Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo, MN. Burial was in the St. Leo Catholic Cemetery, St. Leo.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the St. Leo American Legion, St. Leo, MN.

Leonard Joseph Hoffman was born Feb. 26, 1933, in Porter, MN, to Math and Stella (Novak) Hoffman. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo, MN. He graduated with the class of 1951 in Canby and was drafted into the US Army in 1953 during the Korean War as PFC E3 artillery and honorably discharged in 1961 from the US Army Reserves.

He was united in marriage to Pauline Hamerlinck in 1953 in Manhattan, Kansas. To this union, six children were born. They were also blessed with 18 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was very active in the St. Leo Catholic Church, serving as eucharistic minister and lector. Leonard served as Wergeland Township supervisor for many years and was active as a Yellow Medicine County fair board member. For over 40 years, Leonard was a salesman for Archer Petroleum. He was also an active and proud member of the St. Leo American Legion for many years.

He enjoyed the winters with Polly at Apache Junction, Arizona. Other hobbies he enjoyed were bowling, playing cards, golfing, fishing, and hunting with his family. Mowing, gardening, and working side by side on the family farm with Chuck and his grandsons made him proud, happy, and thankful. He was an avid sports lover, be it the Twins or Vikings, and kept up with all the sports activities of his grandchildren.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Pauline Hoffman; six children, Nancy and Mike Verhelst o of Canby, MN, Doug and Carol Hoffman, Parkers Prairie, MN, Chuck and Lorie Hoffman of Porter, MN, Sue and Terry McMahon of Coon Rapids, MN, Dan and Doris Hoffman of Lakeville, MN, and Ron and Kari Hoffman of Porter, MN; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Kathleen Hamerlinck; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Math and Stella Hoffman; parents-in-law, Charles and Elizabeth Hamerlinck; three brothers, Joseph, Raymond and Norbert; one sister, Rosanne DeVos; and one grandson, Andrew Hoffman.
