Roman Mamer

Roman Mamer, age 94, of Canby, Minn., passed away Sunday, August 28, at the Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield, Minn. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at the St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo, Minn. Burial will be at the St. Leo Catholic Cemetery in St. Leo. Visitations will be Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church in St. Leo. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby, Minn., is entrusted with the arrangements.

Roman Joseph Mamer was born on October 12, 1927, to John and Mary Mamer in Canby, Minn. He was baptized, received his First Holy Communion, and was confirmed at St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo, Minn.

He was drafted in the US Army in 1940 where hw was involved in the nuclear test program and was honorably discharged in 1952. He then returned to the Porter area where he farmed all his life.

On February 14, 1955, he was united in marriage to Lillian Jelen. They lived on the farm until 1994 when they moved to Canby. He continued to work at the farm helping with planting and harvesting.

He was active in the St. Leo Catholic Church, Director at Canby Farmer’s Coop Association, and Canby Farmers Grain and a lifelong member of the St. Leo American Legion.

He loved helping with everything on the farm, attending sporting events for his grandchildren, and wood working.

Roman is survived by his two sons: Steve Mamer of Wichita, Kan., and Brian (Carmon) Mamer of Porter; three grandchildren, Kyle (Wendy) Mamer, Ashley Mamer, and John Mamer; two siblings, Gilbert (Mary) Mamer and John Mamer.

Roman was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, parents, and brother Donald.
