Canby School Board presented with large building project donation

The Canby School Board met on May 6. Andy Guptill of First Security Bank was in attendance to present the board with a donation of $350,000 for the new football turf.

Superintendent Ryan Nielsen shared a legislative update, starting with the good news that Canby’s construction tax bill has made it into the Senate Omnibus Bill.

Tues., May 14 - Breakfast - Breakfast sandwich or choice of cereal with crackers; fruit and juice selection, milk.

Lunch - Pasta with meat sauce (both) or roasted cauliflower steak with romesco sauce (high school); steamed peas, fruit and vegetable bar, milk.


At the RTR meet Friday, Isaac Bollerud shot a 39 earning himself first place, leading the team to a win.

The boys golf team brings home first place from RTR and a pair of seconds from Canby and TMB. Yesterday the team headed to Lakeview, and results will be in the May 21 paper. Today they head to the Marshall Country Club at 9 a.m. for their conference meet.

Thursday during the Lancers’ matchup against the Eagles in Madison, Liam MacArthur slide in to safely steal second base.

Lancers go 10 innings with RTR, falling by one

The Lancers had a rough week on the road, being shut out by both Dawson-Boyd and LqPV. They ended their week with a tough battle against RTR that went into 10 innings, resulting in them losing by one.

They will stay at home tonight to take on Lakeview at 4:30 p.m. They then host YME Thursday.

Student of the Week

Senior Jaxsen Hauschild was nominated by the English department as the school’s student of the week. He is the son of Ryan and Annie Hauschild.

“Jaxsen is helpful and fun to have in class. He remains respectful within the classroom. Jaxsen will be successful in whatever he puts his mind to,” the department said.


Zach Ourada has been awarded academic scholarships from Dakota State University, presented by Amy Crissinger, Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.

Ourada awarded two DSU academic scholarships

Zach Ourada was recently awarded the Elite Champion Scholarship and DSU Rising Scholarship at Dakota State University. The scholarships are awarded to high-achieving students based on ACT scores and high school GPA.

Exploring the outdoors

Canby fifth graders experienced the Ecology Bus Wednesday as part of their annual field trip. While traveling to area wetlands, students participated in multiple activities on the bus. Once they reached their destination, the students went on a nature hike, collected and studied macroinvertebrates, and participated in a food web activity.

Student of the Week

Senior Brady Hulzebos was nominated by the math department as the school’s student of the week. He is the son of Nathan and Angie Hulzebos.

“Brady will finish his three credit math 110 course from SMSU next week,” the department said.
