School board hears resident concerns, raises substitute teacher pay, hires high school secretary

The Canby School Board met on September 19. They heard from Amy Demmer and went over the 2023 levy information.

Amy Demmer, parent, current long-term kindergarten sub, and SMSU University Supervisor, addressed the board as she is concerned about the quality of education students are receiving this year and in the future.

Class of 1948

The Canby High School Class of 1948 held a reunion to celebrate 74 years on September 10 at PK Egans. There were seven former students in attendance including (back, l-r): Silas Olson, Shirley Holt, Dennis Fredrickson, Lowell Hunt, Ralph Dovre and Lyle Gorder; (front) Phyllis Haugen.

Wed., Sept. 21 - Breakfast - Brekkie or choice of cereal with graham crackers; vegetable selection, fruit or juice selection, milk. Lunch - Pasta with meat sauce and bread stick or sunbutter and jelly sandwich; steamed carrots, fruit and vegetable bar, milk.

It wasn’t me!

The first fire alarm of the year went off on Monday at the Canby High School. This time, Laurie Kallhoff’s chemistry class was not to blame as it was only a drill.

Senior Trevor Gray was nominated by the English department as the school’s student of the week. He is the son of Ryan and Karen Gray.

“Trevor is a joy to have in class. He always has a positive attitude, and in speech class, that is a must,” the department said.
