School board discusses bringing back cheerleading, high school math, vape detectors

The Canby School Board met on April 4 and discussed a possible switch in high school math as well as the possibility of purchasing vape detectors.

Senior Presley Viessman was nominated by the English department as the school’s student of the week. He is the son of Rod and Tierney Viessman.
“Presley is a hard working dedicated student. He is always respectful and fun to have in class,” the department said.
On March 28, students of Mr. Brandon Berndt’s sophomore class passed around equipment while Michael Greenman explained what it is like to work as a paramedic. “Gender is irrelevant,” said Greenman. “All you are doing is caring for someone.”
Sanford Health visits Canby High School

With an ongoing shortage of health care workers across the nation, Sanford Health employees took to the Canby High School, speaking with sophomores about careers in health care on March 28 and 29.

Minnesota West Scholarship Application Deadline

Minnesota West Community and Technical College awarded students of $82,000 in scholarships last year. There are a wide variety of scholarships for new and returning students available through the Minnesota West Foundation and the Minnesota Workforce Development scholarship.
Canby High School Student of the Week

Senior Johanna Hansen was nominated by the math department as the school’s student of the week. She is the daughter of Jason and Jodi Hansen.
“Johanna is finishing her last upper level class at Canby, math 110 through SMSU,” the department said.
