September is Emergency Preparedness month
September is Emergency Preparedness month. While many of the emergencies in our area are likely to be weather related, there are countless possible disasters that could happen at any time. Whatever the disaster, it is important that your family has an emergency plan for all its members.
Canby elementary and high school are ready for the new year
Preparations for the new school year was one of the many topics discussed at the Aug. 22 school board meeting.
Canby High School Principal Dr. Robert Slaba commented that they, “ ... had the kids back in for about a week doing schedule changes. That’s been fun, being able to chat with them.”
Early deadline for news, ad copy is noon Sept. 1
With Labor Day on Monday, the Canby News will have an early deadline and go to print on Friday afternoon. News and ad copy will need to be submitted by noon on Thursday, Sept. 1, in order to be published in the Sept. 6 edition. The Canby News office will be closed Monday, Sept. 5.
Lifetime Volunteer
Clara Groenhoff (middle front) was recognized as a lifetime volunteer for Yellow Medicine County for her involvement in the 4-H program as an Extension Committee Member and Fair Board Member. As a volunteer for 4-H, Clara is always a can-do person and is always willing to do anything that needs to be done.
Canby High School wins True Value Foundation’s Painting a Better Future Grant
A fresh coat of paint brightens any room, and this summer Canby High School will refresh its learning environment with 20 gallons of donated paint. Canby High School was selected as the winner of a paint grant through Canby True Value partnership with True Value Foundation’s Painting a Brighter Future program.
The Lund-Hoel house, Canby’s Victorian gem
Valerie (Goodmanson) Wassmer, board Vice-President of the historic Lund-Hoel house, along with board members Jan Pederson, Liz Fink, Carla Henningsguard, Denise Hanson, Jack Nemitz, and Mary Sik, are working toward bringing life and higher community interest back to the Lund-Hoel house.

Ingredients:
36 wonton wrappers
2 teaspoons canola oil
1 large onion, chopped
1 medium green pepper, chopped
1 pound sliced deli roast beef, cut into 3/4-in. pieces
