This week I started reading the 1898 edition of the Canby News. This is the oldest yearly book of the Canby News at the Depot. We have some earlier papers back to 1890 but they are not bound in book form or complete. In the old papers there is significant national and world news in the papers.
Ingredients:
1¼ cups distilled white vinegar (5% acidity)
3 tablespoons kosher salt
2 tablespoons sugar
2 cups cold water
1¾ to 2 pounds Kirby cucumbers (about 6), cut into halves or spears
2 tablespoons coriander seeds
6 large garlic cloves, peeled and halved
I had really hoped by the time I wrote another article I’d be in the garden working on all the spring things. But, alas, here we are. I had a few minutes yesterday between the snow that I was able to put some potatoes in the ground, but that was about it.
Dawson-Boyd Arts Association, in cooperation with the Dawson, Canby and Madison Public Libraries, presents Minnesota author Lorna Landvik at Memorial Auditorium on Thursday, April 27, at 7 p.m. This is a change of location from previous information. It is also free to the public.
Canby fire department relief association’s 32nd Annual Steak Fry at the Canby Fire Hall was a success on April 22, with the line of hungry patrons winding out the door. *More pictures will be available in next week’s News.
Sarah Bednarek, shown here with the community mural she designed for the Yellow Medicine County Fair, spoke of her art therapy education and experiences working with children and seniors at the April 20 meeting ot the Rotary Club of Canby. Bednarek’s studio is the Blue Barn Traveling Art Studio. She is a potter and likes to work with clay.
