The Library Nook

The Canby Book Club will be reading Christmas at the Amish Market by Shelley Shepard Gray and meet to discuss it on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 10:30 a.m. in the library.
Kid’s Bingo will be on Thursday, Nov.14, at 3:30 p.m. 
There are several new items this week.

During the Nov. 7 Red Cross bloodmobile at the Sanford Building, Tom McLain donated his 18th gallon of blood.

Bloodmobile exceeds goal

The November 7th and 8th bloodmobile exceeded of the goal of 100 units by four units.
There were 91 potential donors with eight deferrals, two incompletes, and three no-shows for a total of 104 units collected with the Power Red cell units.

Royal with his working dog, "Thunder" as they were about to begin a nightly patrol of their assigned post at Cam Ranh Bay Air Base.

Prairie Lives

We have been learning about Minneota’s Royal Hettling, who grew up on the family farm and graduated from Minneota High School in 1969. After enlisting in the Air Force and training as a Security Police dog handler, he deployed to Vietnam in August 1970.

Gary Ridgers in the community

On Oct. 19, Kelton King and Hatti Kruse of the Gary Ridgers 4-H Club helped at turkey bingo at the Gary Legion. King and Kruse said it was really fun to watch all the people get really excited when they got Bingos. King also helped with the haunted house in Gary on Nov. 2.

Ask a Trooper

Question: Every once in a while, I notice some vehicles stop in the road at the railroad tracks when nothing is coming. Can I pass them when they do this?

Looking Back

From Nov. 14, 1974 - Deer hunting was termed as good by area hunters and this was one of the reasons this group of men came in with six deer, which included four good bucks. The top one was 200 pounds, one weighed 190, 185 and 180. They were hunting about two miles north of Ray Fulls, west of Canby.

Local artists featured in 2024 Springfield Art Show

The 24th annual Juried Art Show was held at the Springfield Public Library starting Oct. 16 and will feature artwork through November 27.
Several local artists were featured including Diane Swenson with ballpoint pen art, Mary Swenson with photography, and Angie Guptill with sculpture.
