On Thursday, April 22, at 7 p.m., Pioneer PBS’s Postcards program will interview Madison native Dave Hanson about his experience as a night ambush combat veteran in the Vietnam War and his subsequent struggle with PTSD. The episode will be rebroadcast on Sunday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. and on Monday, April 26, at 1:30 p.m.
Paul and Janel Tol have been the proud owners of Lancer Lanes & Event Center Bowling Alley since May of 2019. The couple purchased Lancer Lanes from the previous owner, Janel’s father, Al Fordyce, who had owned and operated the bowling alley for a full three decades.
Severe Weather Awareness Week is April 12-16. It is an annual campaign to inform and remind the public about severe weather threats and enable them to be better prepared to take appropriate action when necessary.
Thanks to the help from Thrivent donations, CHS National Honor Society members were able to make a good haul of food, which will be put towards SACH lunches within the community.
Suzanne Fairchild of Fairchild Farm Mercantile spoke at the Canby Rotary April 8 meeting, telling of the various wool products available from her business as well as the scented goats milk soap.
CHS senior Johanna Heinrich, the daughter of Kara Mortenson, was nominated by the social studies department as the school’s student of the week.
The department complimented Heinrich for her timeliness when turning in assignments. Heinrich noted her favorite historical subject was learning about the U.S. stock market.
The Sanford Schott’s building was filled from wall to wall with patrons attending the Canby Sportsman’s banquet Saturday night. Those who attended enjoyed good food, buying raffle tickets, or bidding on the silent auction items.
“Tutoring — really teaching, in general — was never something I thought I’d be doing with my life,” according to Alenni Nemitz, a Canby native who was has recently started up her own tutoring business called Eggheads Learning Academy.
