I hope you aren’t tired of reading about Medicare Open Enrollment yet! It really is an important time and there’s so much information that I could probably fill a page and still wish I had more space. Each year I meet with people who have never participated before and so I’d like to share what happens at the appointment.

Gardening on the Prairie

I know I’ve mentioned it before but I hereby give you permission to not clean up your garden before winter. Leave all those dried out flowers and plants out there. The birds will thank you when they are munching on seeds after it snows. And you’ll have something three dimensional to look at rather than just flat white nothingness.

Gary Jr. Auxiliary

The Jr. Auxiliary had two special people come in and talk to them on Sunday, Oct. 9.  Brian and Bruce Thomas came in and spoke about the Army and Air Force.  They talked about why they joined and where they were stationed at and other interesting stories.  Melinda Jenson, the leader of the Jr.

Looking Back

From October 1972 - Tim Tobin, 13, bagged his first goose of his early hunting life Monday morning while sneaking up on a flock of Canadas with his brother Terry. Tim has shot ducks but hadn’t bagged a goose yet.

Area History

Trivia answer about the location of the phone booth is that one was located in the walkway between the Canby Print Shop/Canby News and the old bakery to the south. There is a garbage can on the location of the phone booth today. You had to have your nickels, dimes, and quarters ready in order to use that pay phone.
