Deric Radermacher’s life-long goal of collecting pop tabs to help the efforts of the Ronald McDonald House stemmed from a question during his eighth birthday party about what his parents did with all the pop tabs from the business, The Checkered Flag Bar in Bellingham.

It was Oct. 18 when COVID-19 came to the Joe and Michelle Mast household in Hancock. Over the next 46 days, Michelle came close to dying, had her baby delivered by an emergency c-section, and was faced with needing a double lung transplant.
