Roger Hacker

Roger J. Hacker, age 75, of Canby, Minn., passed away Monday, September 19, 2022, at the Prairie Home Hospice in Marshall, Minn. Funeral service took place on Friday, September 23, 2022, at the Crossroads Lutheran Congregation Church in Dawson, Minn., with burial in the Canby City Cemetery.

Roger Jon Hacker was born April 20, 1947, to Clarence and Louise (Schmidt) Hacker and died September 19, 2022. He was baptized and confirmed at Zacchaeus American Lutheran Church. He attended Country School for grades first through sixth and later graduated from Canby High School. He then continued his education at Mankato State University. Roger was a parttime Minnesota Peace Officer for 15 years. Roger had a successful career in the United States Postal Service for 30 years working in Canby, and later working in Raymond and Ivanhoe as their Postmaster.

On August 29, 1997, Roger married Connie (Christians Van Dam) at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Canby, Minn.

Roger loved hunting, fishing, collecting, and spending time with family, friends, and grandkids. Roger enjoyed nature, wildlife, and conservation. His morning ritual consisted of driving around the section and counting pheasants and deer.

Roger was a very active member and sponsor of Alcoholics Anonymous for 37 years. Roger took great pride in assisting others in their sobriety.

Roger is survived by his wife, Connie; his sons, Derrick (Kari) of Plymouth and Nathan (Jessica) of Canby; stepchildren, Scott (Shyrlee) Van Dam of Fargo, N.D., Tammy (Jereme) Fimrite of Sartell, Michelle (Dan) Holder of West Fargo; 16 grandchildren; one honorary grandson; sisters Kathie (Mike) Dulitz of Woodbury, Minn., and Stefani (Tim) Tobin-Hacker of Shorewood, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Louise Hacker.
