
Rick Winter
Rick Winter, age 70, of rural Canby, Minnesota passed away on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025 at his home. Funeral service was held Dec. 5 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Canby with burial at Terrace Lawn Memory Garden Cemetery in Montevideo, Minnesota. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel of Canby was entrusted with arrangements.
Rickey Lee Winter was born in Canby on Aug. 6, 1955, to parents Roy and Ruth (Knutson) Winter. He was baptized at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Canby and started his life out on the farm until the family moved to Canby. He was a graduate of Canby High School.
On May 25,1974, Rick was united in marriage to Debra Jean Nelson at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. After their marriage they started and raised their children near Canby. Deb passed away on Sept. 15, 2005, at the age of 51. Rick was a proud owner/operator since 2004 in his own 2005 Peterbilt he proudly achieved 2 million miles recently.
Rick enjoyed camping, fishing, ice fishing and snowmobiling. He also enjoyed racing and watching NASCAR and football. His time spent with his family and especially his grandchildren was very important to him. He was a lifelong member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.
Grateful for having shared Rick’s life are his sons: Travis (Amy) Winter of Sherburn, Minnesota and Derek (Amanda) Winter of Canby; his grandchildren: Alex, Bryce, Peyton and McKinley Winter and Ty (Emma), Isabella and Slade Fitzgerald; his brother, Russ (Elonne) Winter; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his stillborn daughter, Kelly; his wife, Deb; and one brother, Ron Winter.
