Hanard Arthur Lien

Hanard Arthur Lien, age 85, of Northfield passed away October 25, 2025, at the Northfield Hospital surrounded by family. 
Hanard was born October 28, 1939, the son of Hans O. and Agnes (Tesch) Lien, in Granite Falls, Minnesota. He attended school in Granite Falls and graduated in 1957. Hanard received his bachelor’s degree from Stout State College (UW Stout University). During his time at college, he met the love of his life, Marlene Hoegger. On June 3,1962. They were married at Our Saviors Lutheran Church near Campia, Wisconsin. Hanard was an industrial arts teacher and started his career in Lewiston, Minnesota.
In 1963 he and Marlene moved to Minneota, Minnesota, where he taught until 1997. Hanard touched many young lives teaching woodworking, welding, electronics and civics during his career. Hanard had a very strong faith and attended church regularly while also participating in numerous fellowship activities. He was active in the community serving on the Minneota Ambulance Squad, Lions Club, Church Council, Sunday School teacher, Charter Member of Southwest Sportsman Club and a Firearms Safety Instructor. While living in Northfield he was involved in Vision Seekers, Men’s Bible Study, Bethel Annual Garage Sale and Troubadour Men’s Choir. 
Hanard is survived by his three children and their families: Jon (Dana) Lien, James (Julie) Lien and Karyn (Jeff) Peterson; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Taylor (Sadie, Axel and Roman) Spanton, Lindsay Spanton, Abby (Nick) Wigen, Mary (Patrick, Imelda and Constantine) Stamos, Skot Lien, Katherine Lien, Ryan Lien, Zachary Lien, Thaddeus Lien, Cole Cattoor and Ty Cattoor. He leaves behind one brother, Paul (Joni) Lien and brother-in-law, David Hoegger. 
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; sister, Alice; and his parents, Hans and Agnes. 
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Northfield. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. with a service and lunch to follow. A private family burial will take place at a later time.
