Alona Cahow

Alona Cahow, age 89, of Cresbard, S.D., and formerly of Canby, Minn., passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at the Faulkton Area Medical Center in Faulkton, S.D. 
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gary, S,D. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Alta Vista Cemetery, Porter, Minn. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel of Canby is entrusted with the arrangements.
Alona Joan Thovson was born on a farm near Porter on March 19, 1935, to Ernest and Anna Thovson. The family moved to the town of Canby where Alona graduated from high school. Alona married Marvin William Prellwitz on Nov. 10, 1955. 
After moving around various to farm sites and different places in the town of Canby, they moved to the Prellwitz family farm. They had seven children. In 1986, they moved to Minneota, Minn. Marvin passed away in 1991. 
Alona married Donald Cahow on Aug. 1, 1998. Don passed away in 2007. 
Alona worked at the Minneota Manor for over 35 years until she was 78 years old. She loved spending time with family and crocheting. She made numerous crocheted gifts for friends and family.
Alona moved from Minneota to Canby then to Cresbard in March 2024. She passed away at Faulkton Senior Health Care in Faulkton on March 12, 2025.
Alona is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin William Prellwitz; second husband, Donald Cahow; two sons, Dennis and Daryl Prellwitz; and two grandsons, Joshua and Caleb Prellwitz.
Alona is survived by children, David Prellwitz, DorieKay (Billy) Koska, DeAnn (Jeffery) Waller, John (Carla) Prellwitz, and Marvin (Tanja) Prellwitz, Jr.; grandchildren, Shawn Kontz, Evangeline (Nicholas) Stoll, Amanda (Daniel) Bauer, and Matthew Prellwitz; step-grandchildren, Christina (Andrew) Clark, Jennifer (Jason) Jindra, Dustin (Karina) Koska, Michael (Emily) Koska, and Denise (Evan) Bull; great-grandchildren, Cody and Shyanna Stoll and Asher Bauer; and 14 step great-grandchildren.
