Inge Fontane-Dalwi

Inge Ruth Rosemarie Fontane-Dalwi, age 70 of Vienna, Austria, originally of Canby, Minnesota. passed away on March 28, 2025.
Inge Fontane was born in Canby on Oct. 13, 1954, to Theodor and Karen (Kittler) Fontane. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith at Zacchaeus American Lutheran Church of Canby and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. 
She graduated from Canby High School in 1972 and went on to attend Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, for several years where she earned the opportunity to study vocal music in Vienna. Her beautiful Alto Soprano voice was featured in choral groups that toured extensively as part of cultural exchanges throughout Eastern and Western Europe during the final years of the cold war. She sang at such venues as Passau, Salzburg, and St. Petersburg. 
In 1975 she began volunteering at the United Nations as a translator and eventually made a career there, retiring from the UN Industrial Development Organization. 
It was while working for the UN that she met her future husband, Sardar Hassan Dalwi, who was also employed there. The two made their home in Vienna, but Inge made regular trips back to Minnesota to visit her parents and family in Canby. 
She passed away after a short battle with liver cancer. 
She is survived by her husband, Sardar Dalwi; brother, Edgar Fontane of Bitburg, Germany; niece, Cornelia (Jurgen) Fontane; nephew, Theo (Anke) Fontane; four grand-nephews; cousins, Bernhard (Heidi) Fokken of Plymouth, Minnesota, Erich (Celina) Fokken of Canby, and Theodore (Bonnie) Fokken, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodor and Karen Fontane; and cousins, Alice Fokken, Menno Fokken and Paul Fokken.
