Dane Calvig Nordquist was born Feb. 26, 1955, in Minneapolis, Minn. He was soon adopted by Gene and Danny Nordquist. Dane grew up in Minneota, Minn., where he was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church. While in high school, Dane played football, basketball and baseball. He also participated in band and jazz band, where he discovered his love of drumming. Following high school, Dane attended SMSU in Marshall, Minn. He graduated with a degree in math and computer science. Dane drummed his way through college with a variety of bands. This allowed him to fund his own way through college. Dane continued to play the drums his entire life. He enjoyed music of many different genres: jazz, rock, big band, country and even Dixieland. His last gig was playing with “Jefferson Street” at Minneota Bug Daze.

Dane married his college sweetheart, Nancy Boekhout, in 1980. They welcomed two children to complete their happy family, Justin and Nicole. He worked many years with his dad at Nordquist Furniture and Flooring, eventually taking over the family business.

Dane was active in his community by serving on the city council, hospital board and several church boards. He enjoyed golf, softball and bowling. Traveling and antiquing were also pastimes he and Nancy enjoyed doing together. Dane died Thursday, July 9, 2026, following 16 years of fighting cancer.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Canby; his son, Justin of Starbuck, Minn.; his daughter, Nicole (Erik) Stewart of West Fargo, N.D.; and his brother, Scott (Ruth) of Northbranch, Minn.

Dane was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Danny Nordquist.

Our hearts are broken by his passing, and we will find comfort in the love and memories he left behind.
